How to Test a Laptop Battery – Making Sure it is Dead

Before spending your hard earned money on a replacement battery for your laptop, you should double check and test to make sure that the battery is actually junk. Laptop batteries do degrade over time and it is not uncommon to find and that they do not hold a charge or take a charge after a year or two. If your laptop battery is no longer cooperating with you and you believe that it may have reached the end of its life you can do a quick test to see if it needs to be replaced or if there is another culprit causing you problems.

In order to check to see if your battery is truly dead, the first thing to do is remove it. With the battery out of your laptop, plug it in to its AC adapter and check to see if your computer is functioning properly. If everything seems to be working OK without the battery installed, it is most likely that you have a battery issue. If, however, you are still experiencing problems when plugged into AC power without the battery installed then it is likely that your charging cord or connection is not working properly.
